About The Academy of Chinese Martial & Cultural Arts
The Academy of Chinese Martial and Cultural Arts, a 501(C)(3), non-profit organization, was founded by the Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu Association in June of 2002, and is intended to be Boulder's premier location for events and activities related to the Chinese culture. Having grown significantly since inception, present programs offered at the Academy include traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, Chinese Dragon and Lion performance training, Tai Chi, traditional Chinese medical treatments, and rehearsals of traditional Chinese folk dance. In addition, the Academy sponsors special classes and events that promote Asian Pacific American heritage and culture.
The Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu Association, also a 501(C)(3), is dedicated to the teaching and advancement of Chinese philosophy, history, martial arts and culture. This dedication has resulted in the organization becoming an integral part of the cultural fabric of the Asian Pacific American communities of Colorado. Its performances of the Chinese Dragon, Lion and Kung Fu are very popular and in great demand throughout the year.
The Association has participated in and helped to plan and execute many Boulder/Denver area APA sponsored initiatives including the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival. From its first days, the Association realized that in order to fully realize its mission and goals, it would have to establish a center for its teachings. The result - the Academy of Chinese Martial and Cultural Arts - is unique in its structure, purpose and composition. The Academy is designed to have broad appeal to all Asian and non-Asians in the Boulder and the Denver metro areas. One hundred percent of the Academy's initial funding was earned through SHMKF's performances. To date, all strategic planning, operations administration, fund raising, and facility renovations have been managed on a volunteer basis by the members of the Kung Fu Association.
